Mayor Stutz looks to lift development cap February 23, 2005
Development in the Banff townsite is becoming a big issue for people living in town. In 1998, residents voted to put a limit on future commercial growth The town put a cap on 650-thousand additional square feet of development. But the Heritage Minister at the time, Sheila Copps, said the cap was too high. She reduced it by half and now that threshold has been reached. But many people in the town say they still need more services. But some tourists and residents disagree. They say there are already enough businesses in Banff, arguing that issues like the environment and curbing commercial development need to be addressed. Other news for February 2005 |
