The health of the Upper Bow River is in a state of collapse, according to prominent local fishermen who say the fish are sick and starving to death Anglers say they have noticed an alarming collapse in the insect population over the last four years, which has left brown trout and mountain whitefish “skinny, unhealthy and lethargic.” Sightings of dead fish on the river bottom have even been reported over the past two springs, with fears that more fish may die off this year.
