Threatened caribou populations in Banff and Jasper national parks may be avoiding popular hiking and backcountry skiing areas, according to researchers Studies suggest that Banff 's troubled woodland caribou herd, whose numbers are dangerously low at three to five individuals, tends to skirt high human use areas such as the Skoki region.
