Elevated mercury levels are being found in fish caught in the mountain national parks, posing a health hazard for pregnant women and children who eat too much contaminated fish. Ed Abbott, chief park warden for Lake Louise, Yoho and Kootenay, said there appears to be no hazard for the general population, but women of reproductive age and children under 15 should be “cautious and prudent.”
