Elk seeking a safe haven to give birth will be driven out of Banff this spring by dogs as Parks Canada steps up its campaign to deal with a rapidly growing elk population. The Bow Valley's rising elk numbers are now at an estimated 236 compared to 190 and 172 individuals in the previous two spring counts.
