Tourist facilities at famed Emerald Lake, a popular stopover in Yoho National Park for visitors from around the world, are going down the toilet. Parks Canada has shut down its public flush washrooms at the day-use area due to environmental concerns for Emerald Creek, which in turn flows into the Kicking Horse River. But portable plastic outhouses, which have been brought in as a temporary replacement during the busy summer months, have horrified some locals and businesses.
