Parks Canada is significantly increasing the cost of many services in national parks and historic sites as it grapples with a $100-million annual bill to fix crumbling tourist and hiking facilities. Yesterday the daily fee for an adult visiting Banff and Jasper national parks rose to $8 from $7. The plan is to raise the fee to $10 by 2008. An annual family pass for national parks rose yesterday to $109 from $89. The price will increase to $125 next year and $139 in 2008. A yearly pass for national historic sites will increase in increments to $109 in 2008 from the current price of $69.
