Avalanches still a threat in backcountry July 11, 2005
Last month’s heavy rains and an unusually high snowpack have prompted wardens in the Rocky Mountain parks to issue a snowslide warning for hikers and climbers for the entire region. Parks Canada officials said yesterday that the huge amount of precipitation, which caused flooding, evacuations and massive property damage in parts of southern Alberta, has created a thin, snow-laden crust at the higher elevations.
