Demise of glaciers affecting Bow River October 24, 2005
Three kilometres above sea level the emerald ice of the Bow Glacier is the genesis of the Bow River. It’s remote, it’s virtually inaccessible, and it’s polluted. In the 1950s and 60s contaminants like DDT and PCBs blew in from the U.S. and Asia. When the warm wind hit the cold glaciers, the chemicals settled like dew on grass creating layers of pollution.
